Károly Végh de Győr
Károly Végh (Vienna, 2 October 1859 - Budapest, 3 February 1941) was an economist and the fourth president of the Budapest Commodity and Stock Exchange.
His life
Born in Vienna under the name Károly Weiss. He graduated from the Commercial Academy in Budapest in 1876. He married in 1905, his wife was Mária Cecília Durand of Swiss origin. He changed his name to Végh in 1911. In 1914 he received a noble title with the first name "Győri".
Professional activity
Hungarian River and Maritime Shipping Ltd.
After graduating from the academy, he started working for the then founded Hungarian River and Sea Shipping Company in 1895, where he was the commercial director and then for a long time the executive vice-president.
Budapest Commodity and Stock Exchange
From 1898 he was a member of the Board of the Budapest Commodity and Stock Exchange, from 1907 Vice-Chairman, and from 1918 to 1930 President. He was responsible for the reorganisation of the Exchange after the First World War and the Soviet Republic.
National Bank of Hungary
Chief Adviser of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank between 1925 and 1933.
Hungarian Eastern Shipping Ltd.
Member of the Board of Directors of the Company.
Public activities
Since 1927, he has been a member of the upper house of parliament representing the BÁÉT.
