Rudolf Kállay Dr. de Nagykálló

Born in 1889 in Nagykálló. His father was the son of Rudolf Kállay Dr., the former chief physician of the Erzsébet Hospital.

He completed his schooling in Budapest and Leipzig. After finishing his studies he worked as a trainee at the General Credit Institute of Nyíregyháza. In 1910 he entered the service of the Hitelbank.

He took part in the First World War. He enlisted as an ensign in the 5th Dragoon Regiment at the beginning of the war, but was captured by the Russians and remained there for four years. He served as a reserve lieutenant and was awarded the Silver Medal of Valour, Second Class.

After his return, the Credit Bank sent him to the International Export and Import Corporation. He was in charge of the Vienna office. In 1922 he was involved in negotiations to establish trade relations with the Baltic States and Soviet Russia.

After completing his mission, he returned to the Hungarian General Credit Bank, where he became Managing Director in 1930. He won this post in recognition of his contribution to the development of the bank's branches in Romania. He played a major role in promoting the operation of the branches in Oradea, Timisoara and Brasov.

He has held senior roles in a number of companies. He was chairman of TESZ, Szegedi Kereskedelmi és Iparbank, Tiszavidéki Hitelintézet és Takarékpénztár, Joss und Löwenstein Részvénytársaság, Hermes Magyar Általános Váltóüzlet, Gíró- és Pénztáregylet, Kassai Takarékpénztár. He was also vice-president of the Brasov Cellulose Factory, the Paper Industry Joint Stock Company and the Joint Stock Company for Transport Companies. He was a board member of the Hungarian Cotton Industry Joint Stock Company, the Hungarian Grain Trading Joint Stock Company, Providentia Insurance Company, TRUST, Industria Hungarian General Industrial Joint Stock Company, Zalavármegyei Gazdasági Takarékpénztár, Kroatische Allgemeine Kreditbank, Satu Mare County Savings Bank and Târgu Mures Savings Bank. In 1935, he was awarded the Hungarian Order of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary.

He retained his position as a director of the Hitelbank in the 1940s. He died in 1958 in Balassagyarmat.
