Elemér Horváth

Elemér Horváth (Klopódia, 1858 - Budapest, 20 November 1930) was a lawyer, bank officer and the third president of the Budapest Commodity and Stock Exchange.

His life

Born in Klopodia, Timis county. He studied law.

Professional activity

Royal Hungarian Ministry of Finance

He began his career at the Royal Hungarian Ministry of Finance, where he was a ministerial assistant from 1881, ministerial draftsman from 1882, ministerial secretary from 1890, head of department from 1892, and ministerial departmental adviser from 1893 to 1895.

Hungarian River and Shipping Company

He then left the civil service and became chairman of the managing board of the Hungarian River and Shipping Company from 1895. He held this post until his death.

Austro-Hungarian Bank

Between 1900 and 1904 he was deputy vice-governor of the Austro-Hungarian Bank.

Hungarian General Credit Bank

From 1904 to 1920, until his retirement, he worked at the Hungarian General Credit Bank, first as a director, and then from 1905 as managing director.

Arms and Machinery Factory

From 1904 until his death, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Arms and Machinery Company.

Budapest Commodity and Stock Exchange

In parallel with his duties at the Hungarian General Credit Bank, he also held the post of president of the Budapest Commodity and Stock Exchange between 1909 and 1918, and influenced its affairs from 1901.

During his term of office, the Exchange celebrates its fiftieth anniversary and its first closure during the First World War.

Public activities

From 1915 member of the House of Lords.
